Br. Antonius Samy, O.P., recently published a revised version of his doctoral thesis through Oxford University Press in their Oxford Historical Monographs series, entitled The Building Society Promise: Access, Risk, and Efficiency 1880 – 1939.

On November 14th, a celebration was held in honor of the 75th anniversary of the pontifical charter establishing the Pontifical Faculty of Theology of the Immaculate Conception at the Dominican House of Studies. This event included a lecture by Fr. Romanus Cessario, O.P., S.T.M, entitled Holy Teaching, Holy Preaching: Thomas, Thomists and the Province of St. Joseph, followed by Solemn First Vespers of St. Albert the Great in the priory chapel.

The Church’s Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy concluded on November 20th, the Solemnity of Christ the King. Among this Jubilee’s events, the Dominican House of Studies hosted Monsignor Charles Pope for a special preached Holy Hour on November 20 with confessions available. Msgr. Pope is pastor of St. Cyprian – Holy Comforter Parish in Washington, D.C., and a zealous evangelizer in popular media and in the nation’s capital.

The Jubilee year celebrating the 800th anniversary of the Order of Preachers ends on January 21st, 2017. Among the many activities to commemorate the Jubilee, the friars attended a Provincial Assembly this summer at Providence College, June 14-17. This Jubilee year has been a time of grace and fraternity, and we give thanks for another century of the Order.

This year also marked the 100th birthday of Dominicana, established in 1916 during the Order’s 700th anniversary celebration. Deo Gratias!
