Lord, we remember
The year 2001 on the 11th day of September.
A sunny day in the beginning
But would end in tragedy.
Some look back on that day
And feel the loss of friends and family.
Some look back on that day
And remember signing up for the military.
Some look back on that day
And remember how the country changed completely.

Lord, we remember
Each friend and family member
Each one lost in the buildings and embers.
But is our remembrance in vain?
Is the hope we might see them again insane?
No.

This day’s and All Souls’ Day’s prayer are now the same.
To offer to you, Oh Lord, those souls we’ve lost
Not in some economic exchange with a cost
But in a loving prayer that we dare to say
We say it especially today:

Saints of God, we ask you to pray!
Angels of the Lord, come to their aid!
Receive their souls and present them to God this day.

May Christ, who called you by name, bring you to paradise today.
May the angels lead you to the side of Abraham, our father in faith.
Receive their souls and present them to God this day.

O Lord let them rest from their pain!
Mary, receive them today!
Receive their souls and present them to God this day.

In reply you say:
“Do not be afraid
I have bought thee for myself,
And given thee the name thou bearest
Thou belongest to me” (Isa 43:1).

Lord we remember
And we ask for your mercy.
We ask it as we remember
The 24th anniversary of the 11th of September.
